Coming out of Kam Market in the evening, we were already dying like sun-dried salted fish after a day of baking in the sun. Following the international custom, searching for popular restaurants. Unexpectedly, once we arrived at the door, either the store was closed or full of customers.
So, we decided to give up the so-called “net red card”, decided to take our chances, maybe we can meet a local market after work meal!

Walking into this small restaurant, as expected, there are very few tourists, but more tired office building bulls and horses, sitting around in twos and threes, eating and chatting, spitting out their respective leaders. Such an aura of life is almost too familiar to be true.
Sashimi: When the thick fish meat enters your mouth, the delicious flavor blossoms instantly between your lips and teeth, making you so satisfied that you'll want to have a few more plates.

Tempura: Crispy and sweet, but I never understood why the portion of tempura is so mini every time. It makes fried food lovers like me feel like I can't get enough. Maybe that's why Japanese people are so much thinner than me!

Fried chicken nuggets and assorted skewers: solid as always, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, you can't stop eating.

Cola Cake: Reminiscent of the heartwarming images in the Japanese drama “Late Night Diner,” cola cake always carries a family's happy time. One bite, the outer skin is crispy and sweet, the inside is soft and dense, the lips and teeth remain flavorful, and you can't get enough of it.

Various types of sushi: Moderate, not much of a surprise but definitely not out of place, kind of solid.

Grilled Onigiri: My trip to Japan gave me a new appreciation for onigiri. The charred rice on the inside and the fresh and crispy seaweed on the outside made for a layered texture in one bite that was definitely worth savoring.

Grilled Calamari: One bite always reminds me of old Greek men sipping anisette while chowing down. The squid is savory and chewy, making it a great choice for a drink.

Pan-fried ceviche: small but crispy and richly layered with flavor, it's definitely worth a try.

Cold Tofu: It's the classic small onion with tofu! Only the tofu hasn't been stirred yet.
notion image
Sake: The sweet and spicy aroma of the sake makes you slightly tipsy, yet it is very throaty in the mouth.
notion image
Beer: still with the familiar dense foam, one sip is cold and satisfying.
Plum Wine: The sweet and sour freshness of the wine is as refreshing as a summer breeze after a sip.

💡
After eating, we sat in the store for a while longer, just to experience the off-duty nightlife of Kyoto people for a while longer. There were loud noises, clinking glasses in laughter, less politeness, and more of the city's smoky atmosphere. Such a night in Kyoto is so real and touching that one can't help but feel a touch of unforgettable and moving.
