I'm sure you've heard of Umeda, Shinsaibashi, Dotonbori, and other famous and busy streets in Osaka. Namba, on the other hand, is relatively less famous, but is a favorite treasure trove for locals.
Namba Yasaka Shrine, the most famous shrine in the neighborhood, has a history of more than 900 years and retains a sacred atmosphere despite its location in the downtown area. When you walk past the torii, you will be greeted by a huge 12-meter-high lion statue. The lion's eyes are lamps and its nose is a trumpet, and it performs a dance in its mouth during the summer festivals in January and July. The lion's large mouth is believed to bring fortune and good luck, and is visited by many people.
There are many stores full of personality run by young owners, so if you want to explore the real Osaka, you must visit Namba once. This time, we've summarized jr's official recommendations for delicious Namba food, so let's explore the nightlife of Osaka Namba together!
🤗 ときすし
A popular restaurant that makes “yaki sushi” with lightly grilled fish and seafood.
Among the many sushi restaurants in Japan, ときすし balances taste with price, with hand-kneaded sushi starting at ¥220 for 1 kan. It's cheap enough to eat at a rotary sushi restaurant, but shockingly cheap for sushi made on the spot by a professional chef. The ingredients used are fresh fish bought from the market every morning. Vinegared rice is cooked with kombu broth, and the sushi is kneaded by the dexterous hands of a professional chef, melting in your mouth and definitely delivering satisfaction above the price!
The famous “yaki sushi” is especially recommended. Squid, shrimp, salmon, and other seafood are lightly grilled over a fire, which doubles the flavor and makes them palatable to those who are reluctant to eat raw fish. There are also unique seasonings that are not often used in sushi, such as cheese, butter, and basil sauce. “Yaki-Sushi” can be ordered as a single dish or as a set meal with other popular sushi to make it even more affordable.

🤗 串焼き 大阪焼トンセンター
Japanese Sake with Pork Offal Yakitori, Standing Drinking Shop
In Japan, pig and cow offal is called “hormone” and is often used as an ingredient in skewers and grilled meats. At [Osaka Yakitori Center], affectionately known as “Big Pig” by its customers, you can taste pig offal that is rare in Osaka. You can choose from a variety of yakitori including pork tongue, pork stomach, pork head, pork belly, and pork diaphragm. The offal is carefully handled in the store to be completely odorless, and is slowly roasted on high-grade Kishu Bicho charcoal for a unique flavor. It goes well with wine.
A selection of local sake from all over Japan is one of the main attractions of Omotenashi. Sake is served buffet style, so you can take what you want out of the fridge, and it's a great deal at 380 yen a glass. If you don't know much about sake, feel free to ask the staff at the store, or choose one based on the design of the bottle or your intuition, and have a few to compare. On the first floor of the restaurant, there is a standing area with no chairs, but there are rings similar to those found in trains. If you get drunk, remember to pull on the rings to keep your balance!

🤗 鉄板野郎
A vibrant teppanyaki izakaya full of Osaka flavor
For Osaka people, who are picky about taste, high prices and good taste are a given, and cheap and tasty food is the only way to be appreciated. And if you add “fun” to the mix, it's a great addition. “Teppanoro Satonami Honten” is a famous restaurant in Satonami that is delicious, cheap and fun. In addition to the usual teppan dishes such as okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and wagyu beef steak, which are indispensable to Osaka cuisine, there are also many other specialty dishes, such as tamago-yaki with salmon roe in mentaiko broth, egg, and salmon roe. These are all creative dishes that you can only get here.
Teppanoro Satanba Honten believes that the kitchen is the stage and the staff are the actors. The chefs at the counter making various dishes and the staff around the tables are all part of what makes the restaurant so vibrant, and the spontaneous singing when the mood strikes is one of the characteristics of the restaurant. It's not uncommon for the owner to call out for a toast. The owner says, “It's a rule of the store to drink with people you don't know after you drink with me,” so even if you come alone, you won't be lonely.

🤗 Bar FUu2
Enjoy Namba's Nightlife with Individual Cocktails
For a lively night out in Sanami, why not visit Bar FUu2, a favorite for its original and delicious cocktails, most notably the “78 (Sanami) Mojito”? A mojito is a mix of rum, mint, and lime, and the visual impact of the cocktail is unlike any other mojito. The glass is surrounded by huge ice cubes, and many mint leaves are placed in the center. By using a variety of rums, the flavor is stronger and you can't stop thinking about it.
There is also “Corona Lite” made with Corona beer and frosted margaritas, and “Strawberry Daiquiri Smooch” which is popular for its freshness and crispness. The staff are very kind and talk to the customers at close range. Even if you don't speak the language, you can communicate with them through body language and facial expressions, and FUU2 (futsu) means “ ordinary ” in Japanese. At first glance, it looks like an unusual bar, but when you enter, you realize that it is an ordinary bar. But the staff and the cocktails have a lot of personality, which is not unusual at all.
