Karuizawa doesn't really have any “attractions”. It's only natural. What's the point of having attractions if you're going to live there? A forest is enough.
Compared to Fufu or HOSHINOYA, Indigo is a good choice for value for money. The room is not big, but you can see greenery from the window. The manga introducing the rules of the big bath is quite cute.
In the evening, I came to the newly opened Heliotrope on Ginza Street in old Karuizawa for dinner. Two tables plus a bar in total.
Wake up, take advantage of the sunny day and head to the famous Maruyam Coffee Maruyam to sit slowly in the sunshine and have a cup of Cuisinart. There are no tourists! After coffee, it's a nice 2-minute drive to Karuizawa's world-famous outlet ...... when it's nice to stroll around the park, with a lawn full of puppies.
Came in the evening for French food at Mukai-an Ikeda. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows in the décor, but unfortunately it's not a daytime visit, so you can't see the flowers and plants outside.
Karuizawa Bakery, another cozy cafe. 0 customers on a weekday morning. Good coffee and cute bears.
Bistro Modesto in the Forest. local Tabelog #5 restaurant, warm Italian home cooking. Cheap!
Hermitage de Tamura, sister restaurant of Mukai-an Ikeda. Best lobster of the trip.
On the day we parted, we went to Yukawatan at the Hoshino Hotel for an expensive lunch. The waiter was from Hong Kong and his family lives in Causeway Bay, so it was somewhat intimate. The land of Hoshino is famously beautiful, and both the Highland Church and the Ishinomori Church are located here. There is a steady stream of couples getting married.
On the drive out of Karuizawa, the rain got heavier and heavier, and there was a sadness of being away from home.
