Located in the southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, the Nichinan Coast is the Hinata Beach coastline that spans the cities of Miyazaki, Nichinan, Nango-cho, and Kushima, and the surrounding area has been designated as the Nichinan Coast National Designated Park.
The limited express train “Kaisaiyama Yuki”, which travels leisurely along the coast of Nichinan, looks like a moving vacation house. The body of the train is made of a lot of cedar, a Miyazaki specialty, and from a distance it looks like a lovely block. Inside the train, the wooden seats and interiors add to the resort atmosphere, and the faint scent of cedar floats around the train, creating a unique atmosphere.
The train has only two cars named “Yamayuki” and “Umiyuki”. Through the windows, you can see the clear sea of Nichinan and the forest of Lohi no Mori. In particular, the Oni no Washboard, a natural wonder, is the highlight of the trip.
Train-limited food tour
The first train delicacy is Miyazaki's locally brewed “Sun Beer,” a lager that has won gold medals in Japan's two major domestic craft beer competitions for its water quality. Mango soda, a local specialty, can be purchased on board, and is a tasty juice drink made by adding carbonation to sweet mangoes from Miyazaki Prefecture, making it perfect for summer.
If you want to experience Japan's unique train bento culture, you can order the “Umeyuki Yamayuki Bento” (reservations are required), which combines the double flavor of Miyazaki's mountain and sea delicacies in a single box.
